This past year, the pandemic has put the music industry through a lot; even with these challenges, there has still been a huge influx of new music to listen to. Artists have been writing and producing new songs constantly throughout the past year — but if there’s one thing we were not expecting, it was the release of a new Prince album. In 2010, “Welcome 2 America,” was recorded and never released. This July, fans are eagerly awaiting the new 12-track album that will finally be available to the public.
Prince’s Legacy
Very few artists can claim to have the widespread impact that Prince had. Over the course of his life, he sold over 150 million records worldwide and is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. His awards are numerous: seven Grammys, seven Brit Awards, six American Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, an Academy award, and a Golden Globe Award. His impressions extend farther than just music; Prince was also an animal activist, vegan, and philanthropist (giving money to a variety of medical and educational causes). It is only fitting that his musical and social contributions continue to grow, even after his death.
Prince was heavily influenced by artists such as Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, David Bowie, Earth Wind & Fire, Mick Jagger, Rick James, Little Richard, Elvis Presley, and more. Check out some of their concert posters in the Visible Vibrations Collection.
