The Divebomb Honey have a very cool thing going on. Somehow managing to straddle the line between vintage sixties garage punk and eighties new wave pop, these folks come off as a cross between a slightly mellower Rotten Apples and the Ramones of “We Want The Airwaves.” A good part of the band’s new wave slant comes from the the timbre of the keys they utilize–definitely a vintage-tuned organ setting, but with the lush overtones of synth strings. The subtleties of this sonic palette warrant many repeat listens. Beyond an intriguing sound, The Divebomb Honey hold your attention thanks to fantastic songwriting. A pulsating, hammer-down key line drives “Get Up.” “Pants On Fire” boasts nice quirky-jerky verses and contrasting keys near songs end. The B-side opening “You Wanna” proves rockingest of this batch, while the platter closing “Kinky Kinky” wins honors as most waved out selection, exuding more coolness than all the rest. There isn’t a single moment of letdown to be found in these grooves.
An original 2005 poster by Amy Jo for The Divebomb Honey to promote their tour and album Something’s Goin’ On on Exploding Toe Records. It is a hand-pulled screen print and in very good condition. A strange black vessel with a skull and crossbones on the front and horned heads on either side. It is signed and stamped by the artist, Amy Jo, on the back of the poster.
